What Are Court Cards?

The 16 court cards — Page, Knight, Queen, and King across all four suits — are often considered the most challenging cards in tarot. Unlike numbered cards, they don't depict a situation; they depict a person or personality.

Three Ways to Read Court Cards

  • As a real person — Someone in your life who embodies that energy
  • As an aspect of yourself — A part of your own personality being activated
  • As an energy or approach — How you should act in this situation

Context determines which interpretation fits. A court card in a "what influences the situation" position often represents a real person. In an "advice" position, it often represents how you should approach things.
